I shouldn't be complaining. This is just so unusual. We'll go some winters without any of the white stuff and then we'll have a year like this when it just keeps showing up. :)

Well one nice thing about the inclement weather is being able to stay in the cozy indoors with a hot mug of tea or hot chocolate. TCM (Turner Classic Movies) had a wonderful weekend schedule broadcasting many romantic films in honor of the Valentine's holiday, so I've been busy taping away. Shop Around the Corner, (which You've Got Mail was based on), Gigi, West Side Story, Out of Africa, Sleepless in Seattle, The Way We Were, and even a few romantic silent movies starring Greta Garbo.

I had a laugh when my daughter asked me if this was how movies were like when I was little. I think she got mixed up with black and white television and the silent thing remembering a story we told her of how we didn't get to see the Wizard of Oz in color until we were older. I remember my dad or mom telling me when Dorothy stepped out into Oz that this was where the movie turned to color, but not quite understanding the meaning of their words since our little 19" remained black and white. :) I went on to explain to her that no movies contained sound even when I was little, and that most of the silent ones were made even before grandmom was born. :)

Okay, now for some snow trivia. We watched the rest of Out of Africa, one of my very favorites. If one could have a choice to play/live out any part in their life, this would be mine. Yes, I know this might be a litte hard to believe since it has neither Aragorn or Sully, but this would be it. It was a tough choice considering having Rhett Butler carrying you up that long staircase definitely ranked up there. :)

Anyway, at the end of the film they always give a little bit of trivia and they mentioned that Sydney Pollack, the director and producer wanted his friend, Robert Redford to play Dennis Finch Hatton, but was worried that he might be considered too "American" for the part, so they had him screen test for it. Now for the trivia part, it was Jane Seymour who screen tested with him in the role of the Karen- Baroness Von Blixen (sorry about the sp's here).

I love Meryl Streep in the part. She IMO is the best thing about the movie along with the wonderful cinematography, music (my favorite movie soundtrack) and story. (Yes, my decision wasn't made solely on the love scenes with Robert Redford. Surprise, surpise! Lol!)

I've never thought of anyone beside Meryl as Karen, but I do think Jane would have done a good job with the part, and I think she would have had good chemistry with Redford.

A funny thing also was that Redford's part was British, but he didn't even try to use an accent in his role and they said they tried to diminish his English roots as much as possible believing that audiences would be distracted seeing Redford and hearing an unaccustomed accent.

Well the snow awaits to be shoveled. I just had to trudge across my backyard to rescue my beagle, who was having a tough time making it back to the house. We have at least 20 inches so far with possibly more to come. I thought Vermont only got this much! :) They declared a snow emergency here and all roads are shutdown for now except for emergency vehicles.

This afternoon, I think I snuggle up with a cup of cocoa and watch West Side Story. Oh the choices! :)
