Hey smallmac,
i was thinking of buying the LC 475 Mac.
i am a 68k mac user. What would be the best upgrade for it ?
i'm saying that based on hard disk, cpu & ram.
how can i hook up a cd rom with it ?
does it support any external cd writer ?
what is the largest scsi hard disk it's capable of ?
please answer my questions.
thanks.

There are a few upgrade options. For CPU upgrade, you can drop in a 68040 processor which has a FPU (floating point unit) or in the pc world, it's called maths co-processor.
For hard disk, 4GB is usually the practical limit because any larger capacity hdd requires an adapter which would cause the hdd to not fit into the case. As for ram, we've tried a 64MB ram module without any problems. Total ram is 68MB (with 4MB onboard). The LC475 has an external scsi connector (DB25) which you can connect any scsi device, ie. scsi cd-rom, scanner, zip, etc. You can use an external cd writer with the LC475. Support is built-in to the writer program. Most major brand cd writers are supported.

I thought the LC 475 is a 68040 processor.
ok, how much is a LC 475 with a 4GB hard disk, 68MB ram ?
I'll find my own cdwriter. Or can you get me cheaper SCSI CDRW ?

I'm really intereseted in the LC 475. I can afford it.

Anyway, do you guy supports the software ?
My last LC 475 is running on Mac OS 7.6.1.
Yah, the one thing it lacks is software & a cd rom.
Thanks for the reply.

oh man, i just found out this info :
33 MHz 68040 processors are often available on the used market (the 605 will accept a 33 MHz CPU, but only run it at 25 MHz). However, the heat sink may prevent you from closing the lid.

why does the LC 475 wont run the chip at 33 MHz ?
got any ideas smallmac ?

Hi Pojam,

Just for the sake of curiosity, what do you do with your 68K machines?

I have a couple LC475, a Classic II and a SE/30 and I use the LC to run IIe emulator card just to play Apple II programs.
