Subject: What type of paint/poly/epoxy? for deck

I have a 31 ketch, I am about to strip the whole deck of the old paint and non-skid and was wondering what I should use to put back on. I understand that there are some products that are really thick, hard, gel cote like paints and was curious on which ones to use. If I roll this product on will it flatten out and have no brush marks or marks from the rollers? Thank you

Bryan,

I don't know what you mean by "gelcoat-like" paints, but the last thing you need on your decks, is anything that will create an ice skating ring environment.

There are "non-skid paints" made specifically for decks (Look at the West Marine catalog).

You can also use any hard polyurethene paint with a sprinkle of "VERY FINE" sand on top of the freshly painted first coat (before the paint starts drying) and then (a day later) apply one more coat of paint on top of it.

Best,
Bill

I used the polyurethane and sand on Hibou's cabin top (her deck is wood) and that has worked fine. If you do slip, though, you're gonna leave some skin behind.

On my m 31 i used the noskid from west marine . Now, I don't know what color is that you are looking but remember smth :- White color will hurt your eyes and dark color will pull a lot of heat . So what I did was this, I mix the half of the quart grey with a quart white to make it light and use it in my m 31 Taygeta. Came up great !
