Hi Mike,

Yes, the Mariner 31 and 32 built by Clair Oberly are from the same mold, with the clipper bow on the 32 added on afterward...at one point there was a plug made for a mold that was intended to allow the 32 hull with the bow addition to be laid up in one piece, but that was right around the time when Clair Yachts in Long Beach went through a major reorganization and liquidaton of assets and as far as I know that plug was finished as a complete boat and a mold was never splashed from it.

It may interest you to know that the Japanese carpenters who did those clipper bows shaped them by eyeball with an adze after planting a roughly shaped slab of laminated ply on the stems...no two are exactly alike.

Kindly forgive me for not searching the archives before asking my question. I think I found there the answer I was looking for. BTW, the decorative boards on clipper bows referred to [in the threads I read] as "placks" or "placques" are, I believe, properly referred to as "trail boards".
