Subject: Companionway hatch frame

Murre goes into the shed tomorrow (we've already had 12 inches of rain, so I'm not sure why I bother) for the purpose of getting at the aft cabin bulkhead.

Most of the interior is already off, but I'm puzzled by the construction of the companionway hatch board frames. I see only two plug holes and those on the outer frames only. Can't figure how the interior of the frame is fastened up.

I'm very keen to keep these in sweet shape. Anyone know how these go together--or more appropriately--come apart?

Thanks in advance.

RR

Randall,I'm not sure if I understand your question, but the teak vertical and horizontal framing around the companionway is one piece. That is it is slotted out for the bulkhead. Mine slide out still in tack. The vertical teak frames are "keyed" into the teak frame at the top w/screws from under the brass sliders if I remember right?. By the way "kudos" on the deak replacement write-up. Wish I could write like that.

Yes, that was the question. Vertical frames keyed in under the brass slider--perfect. And much appreciated.

And thanks for the compliment on the article. It was fun to write, but took about as long as the deck job itself.

Someday a sailing story! Just not this winter. :)
