I haven't had them off, but yes, they are fastened with wood screws covered with plugs. On Murre, the plugs are fairly easy to see. Anticipate that the rails were glued as well, probably Recorcinal. The frame they are attached to is the anchor for the rails, the deck, and the cabin side, so care is needed not to injure this frame.

Why you taking them off?

Good luck!

Hi Randal,
Yes I know the grab rail, deck, cabin side all attach to this rail and its the rail that needs to be fixed. A portion of this rail about 3'to 4 'has rotted out a bit. As in your drawing of fixing the decks( very well done I might say) (a) the Grab rail and (B) the rail it attaches to... Now I havent asked this yet afraid of the answer. Do I have to replace the entire rail or can I cut out the section thats bad and some how splice in the new piece? The part that is bad is on starboard side by where the first window would be as you go down the companion way. Any sugestions on how to go about fixing this and with what kind of wood? This has to be repaired first before I can attach cabin sides or decking... I could really use some advice on this
Thanks
Terry
