I've been having the same thoughts about weight and also reading comments from a couple of other boats that confirm what you're thinking. I had some pretty grandiose plans when I started about re-doing all the tanks to fix that but as the project has dragged on I'm reducing the scope of it where I can so I can get back on the water. My plan is to relocate the batteries into the bilge area in front of the engine. Not usually a recommended location but the bilge is so deep there I think there is plenty of room and I hope the water never gets that deep! Because of the hatch construction the batteries will be a little to port but most importantly not out to starboard like before.
I have thought about a port side location for the holding tank but I haven't come up with a solution that won't leave effluent in the hose after flushing which from all I've read is a big no-no. I'd be interested in hearing more about your thoughts on the subject.
Have fun in PT! I don't think I'll be going this year since I'm taking every day possible to work on SEAN O'Sea so we can launch in the spring (as Bullwinkle used to say "This time for sure" :-)
