Peter, I don't know if the worm gear is the same on the M40 and the M31 but there's one re-listed on eBay, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160622774753&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT. It was $250. I'm not positive if it's from a Mariner but you might check it out. Good Luck
