Subject: Looking for a sailplan with CE etc.
In reply to: Bill Kranidis 's message, "M40 Sailplan" on - Thursday - 09/29/11 - 3:33pm

I have seen the one there but if you look closely it is not a m40 in the picture, and it also doesn't have the CE of the sails or the combined CE marked on it. I am going to be working on the rigging in the near future and wanted as detailed plans as possible as there are some modifications to our rig done by a previous owner and I would like to see how she was meant to be originally and I was thinking of adding a couple of sails at some point.

I haven't joint or sent pictures as we are in the process of restoring her. Don't worry, before and after pictures are on their way once she is ship shape again.

Ben,

.....yes, the photo is of a M32 but the measurements are of a M40. When you say your boat's rigging was modified what do you mean? Were the masts moved fore or aft? Shortened or made taller? Was the bowsprit shortened or extended? Booms still same?

Interested to find out what you're up to :-)

Best,
Bill

[> [> [> [> Going trough the rigging -- Ben McKinley-Potter, - Monday - 11/ 7/11 - 1:48pm

I am working on getting her rig in shape and contemplating a few changes (I was thinking of possible changing to a gaff rig but that doesn't seem terribly wise after closer inspection)like switching from internal to external chainplates (having some leaks etc). Some of her rigging was redone in a less that professional manner and I wanted to see what the original rig was like and original sail plan we have the original mainsail by the mizzen was replaced with a less that perfect fit used sail. Just trying to find out how things were designed to be.
Part of the complicating issue is that Grace is not a standard layout(she was built for the perkins 4.236 85hp engine)and so some of the dimensions are a bit different from the normal mariners. I'll be sending information and pictures (before and after) once we get her in a little better shape.
Thanks,
Ben
