Subject: oil filter help

Ok so I went to the boat yesterday to do a valve adjustment and oil change, did the valve adjustment, and the oil is just sludge (won't hire that guy again). The filters I have are not the right size I work at West Marine and cannot find anything that crosses to the number in the service manuel so what filters are you guys using (element type)

Thanks
Greg

I use a Fram CH108BPL.

Good luck with changing your filter as it takes two of us,
one aft and one fore of the engine, to compress the canister spring and tighten it up. Maybe you have longer
arms.

The oil filter on my 107 is a retro fit, it hangs on the port bulkhead, it takes a Fram PH8. this probably won't help you,. I'd call or go to a Perkins dealer or even a Quaker State vendor, they could probably help

I get my oil filters from British Marine in Oakland, CA (http://britishmarine-usa.com/). My engine takes filter part number 26540154 but yours might be different. The told me there are two different filters that the 4-107s were set up to take and they can be distinguished by how long they are so it's best to measure one of your old filter elements before you call and order. I dug through West Marine's catalog and could not find anything that would work. British Marine doesn't have a very good web site but, when I've called, they've really seemed to know what they're talking about.
