Subject: Gearbox replacement

Gday team

Had a whoopsie with the gearbox heat exchanger zinc and she seized up.

The only guy in my country that deals with them has declared it stuffed.

I have a m31 with perkins 4.107 the gearbox was a borg warner velvet drive 71c 1:1 ratio.

Has anyone else replace this gearbox with something else? Any tips and tricks on getting something to fit with minimal hassle would be great.

Cheers

Caleb

Well in the end we had the gearbox rebuilt for $4.5k NZD.

Getting the engine out wasn't too much hassle but getting it back in was.

In the end I rigged up a shackle that connected the mizzen and main halyards, then tied it back to the mizzen, used to lifting blocks off the shackle. Once the engine was lifted i had my mate on a big stick levering the engine backwards from the front end as I slowly lowered it onto the mounts.
