Subject: Cabin Sole Finish

Can someone advise me if they have put a finish on their teak cabin sole. I'd like to for cosmetic and easy to clean reasons. I'm trying to decide between a polyurethane floor finish or of Sikens.

Thank You
Gene, hull#76 M31

I think my teak sole was stained and oiled originally, but I've taken to scrubbing it with a scouring pad and a wet rag after each visit, and I may reduce it to bare wood next haul out.

I find it slick in a seaway otherwise and so think it best to treat it like one would treat a teak deck.

This does mean it soils more easily and thus needs frequent scrubbing.

But then that's very sailorly too, a deep and bowing knee bend to the ships of old that holystoned their decks with each sunrise.

Or, as the catechism says,

"Six days shalt thou labor and do all thou art able,
And on the seventh--holystone the decks and scrape the cable"

You might try a product called "Ultimate Sole". It is a varnish that is supposed to have non skid properties. I have not used it yet but am planning to after all the rave reviews I have seen.
