Subject: Engine Removal

Hello Everyone,

I need to replace the oil pan and rear seal on my Perkins 4-107.

The mechanics tell me to replace the pan gasket the motor really should be inverted.

I was going to unhook everything and then hire a crane to pull it, and then take it down to S&W Diesel, in Willmington, Ca. and have them do the work. They would also dyno the engine to see if anything else should be addressed before I reinstall it. The motor runs very strong, starts immediately, good oil pressure and temp. Any tips pulling the engine and trans?

I am considering borrowing an A Frame and chain hoist, putting down some plywood and putting the engine on a stand in the cabin and doing the work myself.

Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance

Brian-
I took my 4-107 out last year & replaced it with a rebuilt. I'm working on a short article for the projects section with photos of how I got it out & back in (that was the tricky part!). I'll try to get that wrapped up ASAP for your help.
