Subject: M40 Anchor Locker

We need suggestions on modifying the anchor locker on Santa Teresa. Currently the pipe drops directly from the windlass into the peak of the V berth and the chain has a tendency to "pile up" before all of it is back on board. Not much is worse than having to run below, jump up on the v berth and redistribute the chain a couple of times while you are trying to get under way!

Any suggestions?

Thanks in Advance,
John & Jan

We have the same issue and are experimenting with a couple of things. But you might consider reducing the amount of chain you are using.

I ran a PVC pipe from the chain locker underneath the V-bearth. The first 100' of the anchor chain sits under the V-bearth and the other 100' (the stuff I'm most likely to use on a regular basis) sits in the chain locker in front of the V-bearth. The only time I foresee a problem is if I needed to use the additional 100' of chain at which point I would have to manually feed it down the PVC pipe...hasn't happened yet.
