The Thamesway is a British transmission that came with the original 4-107's for the Mariner. Our transmission crapped out last year. No diesel mechanic I talked to on the east coast had ever seen one or was willing to work on it. To make matters worse, none of the usual American transmissions (e.g. Hurst)will fit the 4-107 bell housing. This is where Google comes to the rescue. If you Google Thamesway Marine you will find a link to a guy in Britain who has all the parts and diagrams for rebuilding your transmission. He's also quite responsive by e-mail and may be able to solve your problem without new parts. If you do need parts then the question arises as to who's going to do the work. You may be very handy and know how to rebuid transmissions - I don't. I couldn't get any of the marine guys to touch it even with new parts and diagrams. My friendly auto mechanic did it, of course for a fraction of the cost. The rebuild transmission runs like clockwork. Another alternative is that I will be repowering our boat later this fall - we have an M40 and she's underpowered with the 4-107. Let me know if you're interested in a 40 year-old 4-107 (rebuilt about 10 years ago) with a rebuilt transmission. I have no idea as to engine hours as the engine clock hasn't worked for years but it runs like clockwork. Hope this helps and good luck.
