Subject: M40 head stay

To All,

I am now going to really ask a dumb question. The responses I received were great concerning the headstay, I was ready to purchase what I needed and go to town. However, in going through all of the stuff that I purchased with the boat, I just realized that I have a harken furler that appears to go from the masthead to the bowsprint. As I look at the other sailboats in the yard, the ones with furlers dont appear to have a headstay just the furler. It is heavy and appears to have the fittings that would go on the masthead and the end of the bowsprint.
Could this be why I was missing the headstay, it was replaced with this harken furler?? I hope there isnt anyone laughing because my feeling will be hurt. Im figuring this stuff out as I go....

Seriously would love to hear what you have to say.

Mike

Mike,
My ProFurl still has a wire headstay inside of the aluminum extrusions. Look at your owners manual or download one at www.harken.com. I'll bet it inside of all that stuff!

Captn,

I was hoping you would see this, yes there is a heavy cable inside the outercasing. So can I assume this is adaquate? I will go to the website as well.

Thanks again for all of your help

Mike

Mike,
It should be sufficient. It is probably the same wire headstay that was on the boat before the Harken roller furling was installed over it. It is probably the same diameter as the backstay(s).
