We built a hard top from an aluminum frame and Starboard and mounted our panels. There is no place on a boat where the panels won't be shaded some of the time except at the mast head. This can also work with a soft bimini with mounting brackets added. Take a look at Sea Trek's photos in the owners section.

Hello: I have my solar panels mounted on the side rails just forward of the original aft ss railing. Essentially the previous owner put a solid bar between the aft railing and the first stanchion. The panels are attached to the rail with 3 white pvc clamps each. This allows the angle of them to be changed to allow for increased solar pick up or freedom of movement when walking around the boat. It is rare we really need the panels to help out with charging. I have a blue sky smart charge controller and have no complaints about it. The existing wires for the solar panel to charge controller are old and undersized...this spring I will upgrade to 10 ga marine wires. I will take pics and update my owners pics soon. I think you have a 40 and myself a 31.
