Subject: First mariner need a little help

I was just wondering if in the seattle area if there was anyone that new alot about mariner. I october I bought a mariner 32. It is my first boat i was really excited. I saved for a few years. I am 32 years old so a little new to boating. The guy i bought it from was smart ( asshole enough) to realize this. While I was bringing it home to seattle from san Juans it broke down of course. The exhaust system. Sailed to locks and had it towed to my slip. The best part was he new he suckered me because two weeks later he posted a form message looking to by a new one. So On to my point i would like to pay a mariner boater to and take a look at my boat and tell me how much work and money they thank I have in front of me.

Hey, Mike.

Did you have a survey done, prior to buying ??? You don't really have to know "Mariners" to see if a deck has a soft spot, on any kind of boat of if the engine is in good working order.

What happened with the exhaust ??? Is the motor in working condition now ??? What other things did go wrong with the boat ??? What other things do you want to know ???

I had a survey done. That is a nothing problem. Here is the short version of it. He was the capitian I hired to help me bring it to seattle. Had good reference and all but he was, well i nice way to put it not what he was billed as. I am in the process of putting the new water lift exhaust in. I am not sure what I really wanted to know was just venting a little. Plus I thought it might be nice to have contact with other mariner owners. Their is just lots of little stuff like lights went dead. Found soft spots that were nicely covered. After the exhaust I will ask questins on my next project. Thank you for the replay.

Hi all,

I just purchased my M31, needs a deck and some (yet to be determined) engine work, it's been out of the water for 8 or so years. A majority of the brightwork is in good shape. I paid 1500 for it. I had the hull checked and, of course it's solid, like most Mariners.

I plan on putting about 10,000 into it in labor and other pieces. The masts and sails were stored so they won't need much work.

All in all I plan on investing about 15,000 into it and end up with a boat I can Coastal Cruise from the Oregon Coast down to the Baja, perhaps the Sea of Cortez for a few years then sell it and get a larger boat.

Sounds to me like you got a really good deal!! Look at my boat, I have approx. $12,000 in it and it won't float!! Another $20,000 and I will be good to go. I'm happy as hell with mine!!

Just wanted to say thanks for the respones, they made me feel better. I guess I was kinda just being a baby would be the best way to sum it up. I like the " SWEET LADY" I just had a bunch of little things go wrong in the first few months of having her I got a little scared she was gonna have a major problem. That would be out of my price range to fix. I hope you guys can understand first time having my own boat and not useing my fathers I was just a little scared I bought a bad boat.
