Hey Bryan, I really don't get what you're asking.

I've not seen the 81 M31 you're looking at, so don't know if it has the head thru hulls in place or not.

Certainly the factory finished boat--especially if it was delivered floating--was entirely finished out where the head is concerned.

But if your head area isn’t built out at all, and you’re trying to figure the general location of a factory installed head and plumbing, etc., check out the “head shots” (now that’s funny!) of Scandia Dream, Promise, Carpe Dieum, and Triad on the MOA site. When looking at the Triad photo, for example, the thru hulls for the head are directly behind the head--the small intake is just to the head’s left, and the out-to-sea is just to the heads right.

These shots also show you how others have solved for plumbing.

If you need to install thru hulls and valves, etc. on your boat, I’d be happy to share sizing data for both as I replaced all mine a few years ago.

Is that even close to what you were asking?

Yes Randall that does help, I didn't look for the thru hulls when I checked the boat out, so I was just wondering if thru hulls are put in during const. of the hull or what. (just trying to figure out if it has any) If there are not any then can I just plumb the freshwater tank to the toilet, instead of installing thru hulls? Will this work? Also im looking for the railing that goes around the bowsprit. Also how common is it to find blisters on the hull when they are hauled? The boat is getting hauled next week for survey, the guy says he gets the bottom painted every 4-5 years. Thanks for everything, I'm going to have many more questions so hopefully you can give some more feedback on a regular basis. Thanks again so much.

Usually salt water (or outside water) is used to flush the toilet. You can plan on about a gallon a flush so if you have a 40g water tank that is 40 flushes without leaving any for other purposes. If all you are doing is going out for the day or weekend this would work but why? Put in the through hulls and be done with it. They are not difficult to install. As far as blisters go I have not heard of any problems with the Mariners but yours was made after the resin formulations changed which caused a lot of the blister problems in the first place so you may be different fron the rest of us.

Bryan,

I agree w/Steve. If you intend to sail the boat or at some later date sell it as a working boat, I'd install a head in the proper way.

Another resource is your local WestMarine rep--or similar where you are. They'd have good ideas about plumbing a new head and could walk you thru the options.

As to blisters, Murre had a few just below the water line on one side of the hull (I presume it was the "sunny" side in some previous marina), but they were really just "pimples", i.e. none were larger than an eraser head and none were below the gel coat. So, frightening, but not serious. I opened and filled them and then sealed the hull, and none have returned.
