Subject: Heat Exchanger Zinc

Have a Perkins. Installed new Heat Exchanger July last year. Just changed the heat exchanger ZINC last weekend (one year, bad, i know). No sign of zinc left in the brass nut at all.

But how often, generally, should I plan to check it? 3 months? 6 months? Change timing same as external zincs?

Are there other zincs on the engine I'm missing?

RR

Changed my zinc a couple of weeks ago, except to change it I had to pull the heat exchanger. No zinc left so, better have the heat exchanger gone thru, and well, I really need a spare rebuilt heat exchanger, and I might as well retro-fit the gearbox oil dipstick, and as long as all thats gone might as well put in a new exhaust , because the old one ran straight back horizontally with no rise.
I'll be checking my $4.00 zinc more often, the last one cost $700.00.
Doug.
