 What kind of watch did Buddy Holly have?

In at least one of the Bruno pictures, Buddy is wearing a ring on his right hand. Is this a high school ring? A birthstone ring (the birthstone for September is sapphire)?

In the photos taken during the UK tour in March 1958, in the pictures of Buddy with the Tanner Sisters, he is wearing a small pendant on a chain around his neck. Does anyone know what this is?
