 The Beatles were surely influenced by all of the 50s artists mentioned so far plus some, but I'm thinking Carl Perkins is the one HK has in mind. He certainly inspired George Harrison's guitar style, and the Beatles did release 3 Perkins tunes in the early 60s - "Matchbox," "Honey Don't," and "Everybody's Trying to be My Baby."

Carl was definitely an innovator...he even influenced Elvis, and was reportedly not too happy that Elvis recorded "Blue Suede Shoes," until the royalty checks started rolling in anyway.

Nonetheless, Little Richard deserves an honorable mention: Early Beatles expressions ("oooooh," "yeah yeah yeah," etc.) owed a LOT to Little Richard's wild vocal style.
