How much longer do we have to wait and see? I should have thought it's been long enough!

I find it challenging that there could be any one central person in the history of rock and roll. If so, I shouldn't think it was Buddy Holly who launched his career on the back of it and had already started to move away from it when he died. If there is such a thing as a central figure it need not be a frontman vocalist - it could be a sideman, a producer, a writer(s) or even a DJ (Alan Freed?). I also disagree that a specific date in 1954 marks the birth of R&R. I note Sue doesn't actually advance a reasoned argument but merely says she's read lots of books. I'd be interested in other opinions - can anyone make out a reasoned case for anyone (Buddy Holly or otherwise) being the central figure in rock and roll?

This has nothing to do with liking his music or not.
