 I have not posted in quite some time but I wanted to share a theory that may or may not have been looked into. A while back a friend had told me about a situation he had while being a passenger in a 1952 Beech Bonanza. He was in the back seat. About 10 min into flight the cabin door opened. The door opens like a car door so it stayed in the closed position but cracked open slightly. He said it was really loud inside the cabin, the passenger by the door kept trying to pull the door towards him by the armrest. The pilot told him to leave it alone. Both my friend and the passenger up front were not having a good time at this point. He said the pilot was in control of the plane but he said it felt like some thing was not right and the plane was not flying as it was with the door closed. The pilot was able to turn back to the airport and land safely. This flight was during the day. Jerry 's plane was a 1947 Bonanza. this one was a 1952. I looked into this and it seems like this isn't necessarily a common problem with the Bonanzas but there are a good amount of similar stories out there of the cabin door opening during flight. Could it be that this same situation happened to the guys on that night and caused a distraction to Roger? The noise, along with the panicked reactions of the stars to this event could have distracted Roger long enough for him not to answer the radio calls, and temporarily loose control of the plane. I think this is possible. I am not an expert so please feel free to chime in.
