While I can understand what Sonny Curtis was saying when he said what he said to Dick Stewart, I do *not* consider Bob to be a Cricket, at all.
Just because some kid played with Buddy Holly at some point doesn't make him a Cricket-He couldn't have been part of a band that didn't even exist at the time he was associated with Buddy.
The Two Tones/Three Tunes have more claim to being Crickets than Bob Montgomery, since they were actually playing on Buddy's Nashville sessions, but even then, they weren't Crickets, they were going by the other group name(s). Even Larry Welborn has more right to claim Crickets membership, since he played bass on the demo session that yielded what became the hit version of The Cricket's first hit, "That'll be the Day".
The only Crickets that performed with Buddy Holly are Jerry Allison, Joe B. Mauldin, and Niki Sullivan. Any others are just kids that played with Buddy at one time or another, and because Buddy had his biggest success with The Crickets, and they're Buddy best known named backing band, everybody tries to dub anyone who played with Buddy as a Cricket as well.
