My guess is this. It is more likely that Buddy's missing Stratocasters are still in existence, but the holders of them aren't aware of what they have. They, or one of them, could be in Japan, as that is where the majority of vintage Stratocasters end up. Japanese guitar collectors make trips to the U.S. to buy as many as they can afford, at Guitar Shows, and ship them back to Japan. It would seem that chances are high that the instruments have changed hands 2 or 3 times throughout the years. So, I would say that it is 95% unlikely that the present owners know whose guitars they have in their possession.
