 He must mean he purchased the rights to use Buddy's likeness, catalog, etc. for this hologram project ONLY. I highly doubt she would relinquish ALL future rights for ANY and ALL use to this 21st Century PT Barnum.

You can purchase the right to use something for a designated project and still not have ownership of it for anything beyond that.
