 I agree mostly with HK and especially with his final sentence.

If we are measuring 'central figure' by commercial domination and influence then for anyone of my age living in the UK it was Presley. From the time 'Heartbreak Hotel' burst on the scene until his graduation to ballads like 'It's Now Or Never' it was Presley all the way both in the charts and as role model for aspiring young rock and rollers.
