to let Buddy have his head on sessions.I think he could see the greater picture and how Buddy was developing as a studio engineer.
Buddy was 'net-working' by getting King Curtis down to Clovis. He must have planned to do more work with Curtis in New York when he got off the WDP tour. Why else would he go to all the trouble to get Curtis down to Clovis for that one day session? I flew down from Atlanta to get to Clovis in 2008 and it not an easy journey, so it must have been tedious to say the least in 1958.
It's frustrating to think what the pair could have done in 1959 and how ironic that John Lennon just started recording with King Curtis in 1971 just a month before Curtis was killed.
Lennon was said to be thrilled to have him involved in the Imagine session. On 5 July, King Curtis added a saxophone to Lennon’s ‘It’s So Hard’, and also played on ‘I Don’t Want To Be A Soldier’. It was one of Curtis’ final performances.
