Months ago, when I first read about the hologram tour, I thought the producers would utilize all the amazing digital effects that are now possible. For example, motion-capture turning Andy Serkis into an ape, resurrecting the late Carrie Fisher, or in an upcoming film de-aging Robert De Niro. Even a decade-old film like Benjamin Button featured amazing digital effects, completely transforming Brad Pitt. Nowadays, entire environments are created digitally for films. Mountains, cities, galaxies. Everything seems possible nowadays.

So I really hoped with all the technology available the producers would create an uncanny likeness. Instead, it seems they simply found a young man, put some glasses and a bright suit on him, and filmed him lip-synching.

Maybe the hologram wasn't meant to be watched close up. Maybe he'll be more believable if seen from a distance in the cheap seats way in the back.
