Bill Griggs, publisher of Reminiscing and Rockin50s magazines, 1950’s rock-n-roll fan, researcher, collector, historian, and the best friend that Buddy Holly never met, passed away on March 29, 2011. His death left a void in the world of Buddy Holly fans that can never be filled.

A few days later, Bill was laid to rest in the City of Lubbock cemetery, near the gravesites of Buddy Holley and his parents. Many friends and fans didn’t know this because Bill’s grave did not have a marker. There were several private reasons for this but I had always hoped that we would one day be able to correct it.

I am extremely pleased to announce that in about 90 days, Bill Griggs will finally have his headstone.

I would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank my dear friend Chris Rees of England for joining me in the purchase. People from around the world recognize Chris as the expert on photos of Buddy Holly and The Crickets. He was also one of Bill Griggs’ best friends. The time the two of them spent on cataloging photos is immeasurable.

Today, I not only celebrate the 83rd anniversary of the birth of Buddy Holly, I also celebrate the man who told gave us the stories of Buddy Holly and The Crickets’ lives and careers. God Bless Bill Griggs.
