I may have mentioned before - ah, what has happened to my memory?! - that amazon.co.uk sell a Kindle download called 'The Crash that Killed Buddy Holly', which may give you a different view on what happened on Feb. 2 and 3, 1959. The author is Lam Bastion, a pilot who flew Vision Flight Rules. He seems to have checked thoroughly into the information available about that night, and I found it a very interesting read and his conclusions very plausible.
It is perhaps worth remembering that weather further along the flight-route was deteriorating rapidly, something that Roger Peterson and Jerry Dwyer should have been told about but were not.
