I mistakenly said the fuel tank was spared. Kevin never said that. He was explaining the pattern of the plane's impact to show why this plane crash did not result in an explosion or fire. I took that to mean the fuel tank was intact. I see now on the CAB report that fuel tank was damaged in the crash, which does not mean the plane had no fuel upon takeoff. I was wrong. It clearly was destroyed. But as Aaron mentioned, the cold, wet field was one of the factors that prevented a fire, in addition to the pattern of impact.
