I saw an interesting comment on another website. Someone was asking about locating some lost footage of his favorite but long-dead comedian. He wanted to contact the comedian's family. This was one of the replies:


"I think the answer is: you're wasting your time unless you come up with X amount of dollars and have a lawyer involved. Guaranteed, if a real LA entertainment attorney contacted the comedian's estate and said, "we're prepared to offer you $100,000 for the rights to this special, and we'll pay for all the restoration," then they would talk.

If a fan calls and says, "wow, I'd really like to see this show," you're just wasting their time. A lot of showbiz boils down to "where's the money and who gets it?" If you don't start with that, it ain't gonna happen. The California Bar Association can refer you to qualified entertainment law specialists that can handle the negotiation."
