I am torn several ways over this movie.

One, if its a biopic, as is stated, lets hope it is done right. Correct the errors of the Busey movie and don't repeat them. This is a great opportunity to do just that! Tell it as it was, not just how it suits Hollywood, or individuals.

M.E. is a great divider. Previous actions have not endeared her to many people. However, personally, I like the fact Buddy has never been allowed to become commercially 'tacky', in the way Elvis has. Buddy's image is as pure as he was in his lifetime, and thats a good thing. When he is talked about, its all positive and about his great talent and music. That has to be a good thing, yeah?

There is also the issue of the passage of time. Truths get altered or forgotten. Its a sad fact that the majority of people around Buddy and the truth of it all, are no longer here. J.I. Allison and Sonny Curtis would be good references for the years 55- Sept/Oct 1958...but I am not sure that will be relevent in this biopic. Its fair to say there arent many people still around, sadly. Bob Hale from the Surf Ballroom?
Its sad that a new biopic didn't happen in Bill Griggs lifetime, surely Bill wouldve been a key reference, through his research and knowledge?
I do worry how it will turn out. Will there be a multitude of misleading untruths in it? Will it all be 'Norman's fault' again? (Which was Bull. The same Norman who Buddy bought his apartment tapr ampex from, at Christmas in 1958?) I just hope not. I also worry about how Buddy is portrayed as well. The actor playing him could do worse than visit Lubbock...to get a real feeling for Holly's hometown roots, and then spend some time in a rented New York apartment, playing the songs from the apartment tapes. Kind of like when Adrien Brody prepared for his role in 'The Pianist' by putting himself, as much as he could, in the actual situation of the character he was portraying, he gave away all his possessions and shut himself away from everyone and everything he knew, and had. Very extreme...but it worked magnificently!

The movie is a fantastic opportunity, but I just hope is done correctly, and that casting is done right. Who will play the Bopper? Valens?

Lastly, and this will no doubt cause some division, but having listened to the apartment tapes over again, and the clips of Buddy and M.E. on them, I'm not too sure that Buddy was unhappy at all. His laughter on there, with Maria, doesn't say that to me. They married in August 58, Buddy was making those apartment tapes around Dec-Jan 59. He doesn't sound unhappy at all...just a young man with lots of ideas and projects for the future.
