 No, I think it's more likely that Buddy was the one who gave the songwriting credit to King Curtis, rather than Norman, at the time of the session.

Buddy was a fan of Curtis. Buddy was also indifferent to songwriting credits, sometimes allowing other people to put their names on his compositions. He was also a generous guy.

I'm not a superfan or expert like some commenters here. For example, I didn't read the John Ingman article mentioned above. I don't know where to find it.

But I believe Holly wrote the song, not Curtis.

Is it possible Norman assigned the credit to Curtis after Holly's death out of spite, to avoid letting MEH get royalties? I don't know.

What do you think? Did Holly give Curtis the song during the sessions, did Petty give Curtis the song during the sessions, or did Petty give Curtis the song after Holly's death?
