 I'm not anexpert on the laws of song publishing.
However my thought process is that David Box did not have his own publishing complany whereas The Crickets / Jerry Allison did - Cricket Music

The one dollar was probably a nominal sum for Cricket music to own and publish the song.
This does not mean that David Box would not get all his songwriting royalties.

It does not seem to me that JI would do this to someone, i.e. rip them off.

Maybe someone who knows the legal ins and outs of publishing could clarify ....
