I agree. I don't believe Jerry Dwyer was a bad person at all, but he muddied the waters a lot. This has unfortunately led to a lot of needless speculation over the years.

Jerry hinted at Ritchie Valens also being the cause of the crash after Ritchie's family paid him a visit back in the 1980' or '90's seeking to find out what caused the plane to crash. He told Ritchie's family that he would be happy to do talk to them, but they wouldn't like what he was going to tell them. This alone makes me question the validity of Jerry's belief that Buddy Holly shot Roger Peterson.

I think Jerry's friend Bob Booe got it right when he said that Jerry simply didn't want to accept that Roger shouldn't have been flying that night. It's pretty obvious Jerry thought a lot of Roger, so his love for the kid was perhaps clouding his judgement.
