 Actually, this version of That'll Be The Day (and I'm Looking For Someone To Love) that was recorded in Clovis were intended to be demos for Norman to send to record companies to secure a recording contract. Once a contract was secured, THEN the plan was to re-record That'll Be The Day and I'm looking For Someone To Love as proper masters for release. Bob Thiele at Brunswick liked the recordings as they were so much be released them as is. So the "hit" version of That'll Be The Day on Brunswick is actually a demo! Ramona Tollett told me if she knew this recording was going to be issued on record, she would not have done it! She also told me she and Gary were not paid for the session as they were strictly helping a friend. Amazingly, after being up all night, Gary and Ramona returned to Lubbock as they had to go to work that day!
