Now that the Holly hall is so near final completion (I do hope the tower with Buddy's name in neon is still to be added),
we need only to wait for a further reduction in covid numbers before great events will begin to occur at this wonderful performance facility.
What an achievement for west Texas!
Since first learning about the generous donation allowing
the hall to be named for Buddy, I have wondered who may be the benefactor.
Obviously they have these 2 attributes: Deep pockets, and a genuine love and respect for Buddy Holly.
With that in mind, my obvious guess is Paul McCartney, and my less obvious..? David Geffen.
There surely are some local west Texans who have done very well for themselves in the world of finance and industry that grew up on Holly's music. Could one of them have made the naming possible?
Yes, I'm aware that M.E. H. allowed for Buddy's name to be used, free of royalty, but that is not quite the same as "one significantly large private donation" for which the naming rights were bestowed.
