The inclusion of the London Palladium recordings makes the whole "found in a closet" story seem even more dubious. That was an off-air recording made by a fan. Unless the BBC provided Buddy with a recording of his performance (which is remarkably unlikely), whatever Maria has was likely given to her by a fan.
To Dale's point, I don't find it all that surprising that Maria didn't know the material on the tapes wasn't new. I'd bet there are numerous songs in Buddy's catalogue that she has listened to maybe once, if ever.
A very similar example is... see, I'm a pro-wrestling fan. My favourite was The Ultimate Warrior. He died in 2014, and his wife became a very prominent figure by way of interviews, podcasts, etc. Warrior's trademark was running to the ring in a frantic manner. During exactly ONE match -- at WrestleMania 7 -- he walked to the ring. This match is regularly listed as one of the greatest of all-time. It's extremely high profile and indeed legendary. Anyway, a fan asked Warrior's wife if she knew why he didn't run to the ring at that one show. Her response, and I paraphrase, was "Oh, didn't he? See, I didn't know that. You learn something new everyday!" With this, it was obvious that she had never really watched any of her husband's work, even his most iconic moments.
My point? We're fans. They're not. Again, I'd bet that anybody on this forum could school Maria on biographical information on Buddy pertaining to any period of his life outside their marriage.
