JOINT CONFERENCE ON ARTS_OUR FUTURE (TONIGHT)
Background:
The funding mechanism and operational structure of
Hong Kong Arts Development Council (ADC) is currently
under review and we take this opportunity to draw your
attention to it, which might infringe on our
democratic platform on arts development.
The Issues:
Dr Partick Ho's, appointed ADC chairman by Chief
Executive Mr. Tung, negatively comments on art society
and artist's over-reliance on public money are
groundless. His provocative proposals on ADCˇs
structural change and modifications on the
well-established funding policy, which takes the
reasoning of nurturing a pluralistic society in
support of arts at different levels, reflects his
ideas on art development, which would no longer be a
platform geared to democracy. His procedure of
handling /sidelining publicˇs comments at HKADC
meeting, besides, is another issue to be discussed.
Course of Action:
In this connection, we, together with other interested
parties, venture to co-host a meeting on the subject
above and your support by participating in tonightˇs
discussion is much appreciated.
