In the past, you might have been required to send real funds to an identifiable location, but we now have modern electronic transfer.
This really makes it easier to help with realistic orphans who have fulsome sums of fictitious funds which require fast foreign transfer. Unfortunately, the transfer is blocked by fictional functionaries, all of whom must be paid to stamp documents or approve actions before the transaction can go forward. But with modern wire transfer service, you can send funds to these fake functionaries in an expeditious manner with a minimum of effort.
Some people have doubts about whether they should send bribes for fictional officials. Fortunately, there are modern internet drug dealers who can help.
