Date Posted: 03/ 4/08 9:44:35am Here is an overview from the rule book that explains the Personal Safety K9 Examination (Day). Just received all the paperwork from the copywriters so I will be posted the rule book in is entirety on the web site. The web site will be at www.k9ta.org Personal Safety K9 Examination (Day) According to the Nation Crime Victimization survey 52.7 percent of violent crimes occur between 6 A.M. and 6 P.M. Personal Safety K9 (Day) examination testes the preparedness of the Handler K9 team reflecting violent crime statistics that occur during the day time hours. Personal Safety K9 (Day) examination will include two phases; practical obedience phase and the proper use of K9 force phase. The obedience phase is a test to show K9 control in practical everyday situations. The obedience will include but is not limited to on leash and off leash heeling, sits, downs, out of motion commands, down stay, come command, finish command, on leash slalom heeling course, right and left turns. There will be practical distractions used through out the obedience pattern, which may include but is not limited to gunfire, decoys, food and toys on the trial field. The proper use of K9 force phase will include a Handler attack from hiding scenario, civil alert scenario and three surprise scenarios that will mimic today’s current crime trends. Handlers must make decisions during the Handler attack from hiding and three surprise scenarios if K9 force is needed and justified according to the citizen’s use of force continuum. Handlers will further make the decision, if K9 use of force was used, when to deescalate the use of force according to the actions of the Adversary.
