Lea Salonga, the Filipino singer (entertainer) and theater actress in the Broadway musical Miss Saigon where she won the Tony and Laurence Olivier awards, is the current product endorser of a Philippine-made toothpaste named Hapee.
If you are in Philippines (particularly in the metropolis Manila along the national highway called South Expressway), you would see a huge billboard where Lea is shown smiling and hugging a big globe (the Earth), and on her side is a Hapee toothpaste with the caption: "This Hapee Smile Won The World!" This ad is also printed in Philippine newspapers and shown as a TV commercial.
In the field of musical theater, Lea gained international fame but it's NOT a global one. A musical, also called musical comedy, is a play in which the dialogue is interspersed with songs and dances. It is a stage show that can be produced, held, or shown in a theater in any country BUT the stage play or the show (the musical) itself such as Miss Saigon is NOT an international or global show or event because it does NOT involve any two or more countries in the show eventhough its casts can be international or foreign nationals. Musicals are only popular and appreciated mostly in Europe (especially U.K.) and other English-speaking nations like U.S.A. The majority or the rest of the world do NOT as there are more than 200 genres (type, class, or category of music) in the world today, the most watched and listened to music is the pop or popular music.
In Philippines where about 70% are the masses or the poor (and only about 10% are rich), most Filipinos do not really appreciate much musicals for most of them cannot relate to it. What they love most is pop music (love songs & danceable tunes). They perceive musicals as snobbish or elitist as most Filipino musical enthusiasts and aficionados are the classy rich, the highly educated and cultured, the snooty, hypocritical high society, and the sophisticated, fashionable people--only a small population of Philippines.
The Tony Awards are annual awards for distinguished achievements in the U.S. theatre. Named after the actress-producer Antoinette (Tony) Perry (1888 – 1946), the annual awards were established in 1947 by the American Theatre Wing and are intended to recognize excellence in plays and musicals staged on Broadway. The Laurence Olivier Awards, previously known as The Society of West End Theatre Awards, were renamed to honor the British actor Laurence Olivier in 1948, having first been established in 1976. The annual awards are organized by The Society of London Theater in London.
It's very clear that the Tony awards are given in American musical theatres in the U.S. only (NOT international, NOT global). Likewise, Laurence Olivier Awards are given in London musical theatres in England only (NOT international, NOT global, too!).
Thus, the Tony and Olivier Awards are NOT international or global awards! And Lea won these awards not by her smile but by her singing talent. She only became an international celebrity (became known internationally) because she and Miss Saigon had heavy int'l media exposures JUST LIKE HOLLYWOOD ENTERTAINERS (ACTORS/ACTRESSES) WHO ARE GIVEN AND ENJOY ENORMOUS INT'L BUILD-UPS AND FABRICATED PUBLICITIES (CONTROVERSIES, GOSSIPS, SCANDALS, ETC.) so that they would become "VERY SALEABLE and HOT" to their fans and the public for they have to sell their movies/music albums in CDs, VCDs, DVDs, etc. that worth millions and millions of money!
Miss Saigon was only highly publicized and well-hyped musical through international print and broadcast media and was only shown (had productions) in different countries that's why it was known internationally. But Miss Saigon was NOT an international, global nor world competition or event! In reality, it's not globally famous, not world-renowned. The int'l media only magnified Lea and Miss Saigon as having global stature when, in reality, they do not. Lea Salonga is NOT a real, global person so LEA SHOULD NOT HUG THE WORLD!
Alongside the South Expressway too, near across Lea's billboard is the billboard of the real global person and real global queen, MISS INTERNATIONAL 2005 PRECIOUS LARA QUIGAMAN shown holding a fine slipper whose brand is Outland (which means a foreign land). SHE SHOULD BE THE ONE HUGGING THE GLOBE because she really won the whole world by her Miss Philippines winsome smile (beauty and charm), brains, talents, or by her total personality that fitted her to be the global Miss International queen.
Precious Lara Quigaman is a globally proclaimed, formally crowned, and officially titled queen whose crowning (a real, global contest and event) was participated in by so many countries of ALL continents of the world. THE WHOLE WORLD WAS REALLY INVOLVED! Though she has little media exposures compared to heavily hyped and very publicized showbiz entertainers, Precious Lara is a real, global person, a real, global queen. The size, extent or scope of her world-renowned title, MISS INTERNATIONAL, her reign, and queenship cover the entire/whole world.
As she was the one who really won the world (with her prestigious world title and crown), in her Outland billboard, Miss International Precious Lara Quigaman should wear the fine Outland slippers/sandals, hug the big globe and smile, with this billboard caption: "In the Outland, This Bb. Pilipinas Smile Won The World!"
