Subject: Little update...

Hey there...I hope everyone is gearing up for a great holiday season! Things have been pretty wicked here. I have been up and down on the prednisone (up, mostly...60 mg for the past week, weaning down to 55 mg tomorrow and will stay there for another week)...my docs and I have come to the realization that the methotrexate (chemo med to help the prednisone work better) is NOT working (which I have known for a while, but docs wanted to give it more time). The new plan of action is to switch BACK to the 6-mp, which I was on before...it had worked REALLY well for a long time...kept me stable on 7 mg of prednisone for over 6 months with NO flare ups before it started messing with my blood cells forcing me to get off of it. The hope is that with a new "helper" med (a strong folinic acid) the blood cells won't be an issue (plus the time off the med) it should work for me again...hopefully as well as it did before! I am hoping I don't have to go through the months of side effects getting ON the med as my body adjusts to it like I did the first time...that was no fun...nausea, mouth sores, hair loss...but if it means less pred, in the end it will be all worth it!!

I am SO tired of all the side effects from the pred now I can't even begin to explain it! Between the bouts of depression (thankfully they are not every day), weight gain (which I DESPERATELY try to keep to a minimum with diet), dry, itchy skin, muscle achyness, general fatigue, and all the other loverly things you all know so much about...I am ready to be done with this already!! Starting tomorrow I will be REALLY hurting...and probably fainting since my chemo is not working lol...so that should be festive...no more privacy for Ivy! Fabulous! Luckily I also go see my therapist tomorrow LOL...boy do I have a lot to talk about this session!

I really do wish everyone a VERY happy and STEROID FREE or at the very least STEROID LOW holiday!!!

Love,

Ivy
