Subject: Diabetes and Vitamin D Deficiency

First, thanks to all for the diet suggestions. I have not been followed by an endo for a few years now. I know I should have been, but due to several circumstances post-Katrina just never did. Finally saw one and she did full labs. First one fasting blood sugar came back high so she had another one done last week to see if it still came back high and it did. Also shows severe vitamin D deficiency. So now I am officially considered to have steroid induced diabetes mellitus. This probably explains the extreme thirst and urination as well as constant fatigue I have been having for about a year now. A bit overwhelmed by it all and after meeting the diabetes educator will need to make major diet changes. I wasn't too surprised about the diabetes diagnosis as I know that is a side effect of long-term steroid use. I was surprised about the vitamin D deficiency though. I will need to take a special vitamin D supplement Rx (50,000 IU daily) as well as additional 2000 UL regular vitamin D3 and 1500 calcium. Has anyone else developed this?
