Author: Sherman (Side Effects of Dexamethasone Steroid)
Subject: Steroids and Migraines

I'm a fairly healthy 51 year old male who has suffered with migraines for over 30 years. I usually get a minimum of 1-2 migraines per week. They mainly on at the base of my skull on the right and left side and sometimes they migrate to my forehead. Most of the migraines occur when I wake up in the morning or in fact they wake me up. I take 1 or 2 immitrex (100 mg) when I get a migraine and ice seems to help. When the migraine doesn't go away after the second day, I take a small dosage of dexamethasone (4mg pills). I take 2 the first day and 1 or 2 the second day. They are miracle drugs because my migraine goes away and stays away for at least 4-5 days. But then it's probably the "rebound" effect from the immitrex and/or the steroids that brings back the migraine. I have gained about 30 pounds and my face has the moon shape. This is bad in that I am a musician and perform quite often. I am in the midst of trying to take different pills (with my neurologist's help) to take every day to minimize the migraines, however nothing has worked so far an the side effects of the pills I've tried are pretty bad. I'm also do to get Botox injections, which I've done twice before. Not really sure if it works.

My questions are, how do I get rid of the moon face and weight? Do you know of any other alternatives for the steroids or anything else to help with my migraines? How do I wean myself off of the dexamethasone so that there's minimal rebounding?

Please help and thanks for your time.

Sherman
