The length of time that steroids last in the system varies from patient to patient. Much of it depends on how much your daughter was given. Typically, after I have received an injection of steroid, the effects take about 3 months to COMPLETELY wear off...but I have never JUST had a steroid shot and no other steroid to continue treatment...so it may be less for your daughter. But 3 months was always my rule of thumb to try to get through before feeling much better. She may notice symptoms beginning to subside after a couple more weeks. Again, it really depends on the type of steroid and dose. She should really TRY to give herself a break...she should drink TONS of fluids, and strange as this may sound, INCREASE her sodium, to counteract the drops in bp (blood pressure)/hr(heart rate) that may be making her feel weak and dizzy. Also, if she doesn't start to feel better soon, you may want to ask her doctor about running some blood work to make sure that nothing is off in her electrolytes. Steroids can cause a drop in sodium/potassium/magnisium/ and calcium. ALL of those can cause the weak/dizzy feeling your daughter is experiencing.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or just need to vent!

Ivy
