Subject: Majority Rule

I wanted to make a quick point in response to your comments regarding the poll vote regarding the Dixie Chicks.

I appreciate the value of voting. (I stongly believe that in the case of the radio poll in question this was probably the best method of deciding whether or not they should be played!)

My problem is more in the abstract in that as an Individualist I have a problem with notions of majority rule. (Taken to its absolute Democracy means that the 51% could put the remaining 49% into the gas chambers). Part of the problem is with Demogogy (where the few - 'opinion leaders', the gurus of political correctness, lobby groups and the like - persuade the 51% to tax the remainder for money for 'good causes'). Isn't it strange that these 'good causes' often aid that particular group????!!!!??

I realise that Majority rule is preferable to minority rule (or one-person rule).

For those people who do not vote my answer is 'tough cheese old boy'. Plenty of people died and plenty of other people put up with a great deal of hardship so that we could vote and if someone chooses not to then they have made the decision to allow others to do their thinking for them!

(Though on a lighter note I do not think that they had phone polls on C&W performers in mind!)
